Keep it fun and easy….In all sessions, you may use as many outfits as you can manage during the session; you may have to change quickly! Layers, such as sweaters or jackets, or interchangeable items such as scarves, shoes, other accessories are great because you can have lots of different looks with minimal changing time needed…plus, all your photos have a nice color theme to them, which is great for collages, or storybook-style gallery wraps.
Girls, for shoots which take place on location, such as in alley ways, your house, or the park, expect to add at least an hour, if not more, if we’re going from one to the next. Bring your hair brush, lip color or gloss, lots of shoes (high heels look fabulous!) and items you can change into on location without stress. Remember, in most cases, the clothing shouldn’t be the dominant subject in the photo…YOU are! But sometimes, we girls want to wear something really special for a picture, with a little flair. That’s okay, we just need to figure out where you can change clothes if we’re on location. Consider treating yourself to a manicure, too, and show off your hands if you’d like!
For guys, well, you know it’s not that complicated! But plan to dress comfortably, and have a few options for changing, with accessories, like sunglasses, wool scarf, shoes, leather jackets, sweaters, even different pants.

Family members should dress in clothing that each person likes, but which coordinates with the rest of the family. Here’s what you should do: put everything that everyone is wearing on the bed, and see if there is an item or outfit that just doesn’t belong color-wise. Avoid black and white, unless everyone is wearing it–too contrasty. Different textures are great (like ruffles, leather, denim and knits) but try to keep the predominant colors similar (blues, greens, browns, for example), and the patterns not overwhelming. Please don’t feel like you must wear all solid colors or only one color, and please don’t all wear the same basic outfit! Show your personalities!
